Can't really find much info about something i have just noticed.
A bit of browsing the internet, not even that long tbh, looking at some pictures and my 290 is hitting 63C with fan set to auto.

Surely that is too high??

Quite normal really. Mine used to idle 59c with really good case cooling unless I ramped up the fan and it got pretty noisy.

Fixed mine in the end by stuffing it in a forced cooling duct.

Don't know about reference coolers? but AIB cooled thats very very high and not right.

Powercolor PCS+ 290 @ 1100/1400 with +63mv

Normal, simply because if you use auto fan on a reference 290 the stock fan speed never rises above 20% = silence at all times. When browsing or watching a video this means the card will sit in the 50-60c range depending on what you're doing. You can either create a custom fan profile to keep temps lower, or just leave it be like i do. Up to you. :)

If as said above you have an AIB card, that does seem odd. What is the card clocked at during these temps?

Can you maybe check the GPU load when you are browsing ? Use something like MSI Afterburner to look at what % your graphics card is being used.

Temperatures are normally linked to GPU usage. If in your case they are not, it means that there is either something wrong with the cooler or the fan curve is set very aggressively.

What browser are you using? I seem to recall one of them had an issue where it caused the gpu to go into 3D clocks mode rather than the lower 2D clocks so ended up with higher temps?

As a further thought, what case have you got, what's the airflow like in it? How are the temps when running games? If you're not having any problems when running games it could well just be the fan curve is set for low noise rather than low temps.

^happens in Google chrome I believe.

63c does seem a bit high for idle even on default fan profile the fans should have kicked in surely?

It's either a problem with your cooling setup or there's something hogging the gpu, can you check in AB what the gpu usage is. While you're there might as well check your fan curve setup.

Had a similar issue where my card was sitting in 50's. I had the bios switch on silent where it keeps the fan at low speed. Try switching to performance mode and see if it drops. What is the GPU usage when browsing ?

Will have to check when I get home from work.

I do know that my idle temp was around 41c, had 4 new fans yesterday and the cards idle temp dropped to around 37c after installing them.

I was using Firefox browser btw.

Front 140mm, side 140mm, 120mmx2 top, rear 120mm.
H105 hydro.

Nzxt 410 case.

Hmm, well if it's going up 20 degrees from idle then it suggests something is actually using the gpu when you're browsing. Definitely use something like MSI afterburner to see what is happening to the clocks and usage while browsing.

That seems a lot to me. My 280x's are at 33c and 34c currently, fans at about 18%. Never seem them go above 40c unless I'm in game.

Pretty sure I disabled hardware acceleration when I first googled about any issues and that chrome issue was mentioned a few times.

I have got a few system monitor programs but I will get afterburner up and running later and see what the results are. Thanks for the info guys.

Well, i have just got home, booted up, chrome wasn't running but was there in the background on task manager, removed it from task manager, used firefox, no jumps in temp.
Used google chrome alongside firefox and the temps haven't budged either.

Happy that its like that but a little confused now.

Have you checked AB yet?

Also what monitor/setup have you got?

yeah, got ab running, browsing in firefox sees gpu clock spike at 650 when clicking through a gallery of photos, memory clock spikes to max 1250 when clicking on a new link for example.

Hovers around 330 gpu clock, with seemingly random memory spikes to 1250.

Single monitor setup, 27" running through hdmi atm due to waiting for my displayport cable to turn up. No doubt my card will be pushed harder when i go 1440p like i know the monitor can.

Can run FF and GC together, switching between them and gpu clock spikes to 400.

These random memory clock spikes to max, they normal??
