Hi guys,

I've recently bought a VTX3D R9 290 from Overclockers, was delighted with it at first, but I get a weird issue when playing some games. It sounds like the blank screen error, in that the screen shows nothing but I can ctrl-alt-del and can still hear the game.

I've check my event viewer when it happens, and I get the following:

Event ID 4101
"Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

I've looked it up online, and I've tried multiple solutions, from disabling aero, to adding a longer timeout to the registry, to doing a complete fresh install of windows to make sure the drivers are cleanly installed!

It'll happen almost exclusively in DayZ Standalone, at random times, so I dunno if it's to do with that. I can play BF4 for 2 hours straight with no problems.

I have the card at stock clocks, with a custom fan profile so it doesn't go over about 85-88 degrees. Has anyone else gotten that specific error or am I alone?

Cheers,

Delver.

Yeah I've been trying to do some reading up on it, see if I can sort it out. I just ran DayZ in windowed mode, but got the same issue, except this time when it crashed, it wasn't just a black screen, the whole screen filled with graphical corruption. I could still use windows but had to reboot it to clear the screen.

Also the same thing happened previously when I tried to play an MKV file, graphical corruption, but I haven't been able to replicate that.
My worry is that I have a dodgy card? I'd hate to have to RMA it! It has the Elpida memory chips.

It's odd, I can play BF4 for hours with no issue, it's just DayZ seems to do something with it that causes the driver to crash. I'm hoping its just a combo of immature AMD drivers, and alpha DayZ code!

same card and im having problems with cod ghosts single player, game plays sweet untill
the level legends never die tries to load and instant black screen, game played fine on my 7970 so i knows its to do with the 290
