Hi,

Just purchased an R9 290 Sapphire Tri X 4GB. I have done a fresh reinstall of Windows 8.1 and everytime i play a video on youtube or other similar sites the PC freezes (including mouse) and then restarts. I have seen that a lot of people are having issues with the drivers for this card and are having similar problems but they have all seemed to be fixed with the catalyst 14.4 update. I havnt been able to try a different card as ive already got rid of my R9 270.

With the mouse freezing i reckon its a serious hardware problem but as the card is new is this possible ?

I have just tried to uninstall the catalyst control centre and the PC will no longer go into windows it just sits on the initial windows 8 menu screen before the password log in and you cant do anything.

Anyone else had a driver issue or have i got a dodgy card ?

Thanks

If you can, download DDU display driver uninstaller from guru3D. Boot into safe mode and run it, after restart install 14.6 rc1 driver.
Test again

there is no such thing as safe mode on windows 8

There is, it's just a pain to get to.

Don't know if it is related at all but I had the same issues with my 280X. Got in touch with AMD and got this response as to what the problem is:

This error occurs when the Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR) feature available in Windows detects that the graphics card (GPU) has not responded within a predetermined period of time and reinitializes it with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) to prevent the need to reboot. There is no single cause for a TDR event to be triggered.

okay so how did you get around the problem ? and did AMD manage to solve it for you ? all the R9 2xx series run off of the same driver so it will be the same issue i guess

I've just gone back to 14.4 and it's not happened since. AMD told me to remove the 14.6 drivers with a third party software (DDUCleaner for me) and reinstall it to see if it keeps happening. If it does, just stick with 14.4 until 14.6 is out of beta.

Although, I have this second just noticed that 14.7 was released today.

Okay thankyou for the headsup on that :) Think im just gunna wipe and reinstall windows fresh as i have installed and uninstalled so many drivers its unreal.
How did you fix the issue with your 280x ?

Power issue what psu do you have?

Try a different 6 and 8 pin plug off your psu if you have more than 1 of each.

Motherboard bios up to date?

Motherboard drivers all installed?

Try mouse on its own,

If the problem is still there after your reinstall of windows if course.

I did my motherboard bios update in windows using a gigabyte board.

Maybe you can too by downloading the latest bios from your motherboard website?

yh i got the latest update but it wouldn't let me do anything in windows when i tried to run it as it was a ROM file :/

My keyboard and mouse now don't respond .... i push a key on the keyboard and the backlight flashes and that is it !
