R9 290 Issues

Don't know if it is related at all but I had the same issues with my 280X. Got in touch with AMD and got this response as to what the problem is:

This error occurs when the Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR) feature available in Windows detects that the graphics card (GPU) has not responded within a predetermined period of time and reinitializes it with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) to prevent the need to reboot. There is no single cause for a TDR event to be triggered.

I couldnt find anything called that when i downloaded it no. I shall have a look on the website again tommorow when i get my external DVD drive back and have reinstalled windows.

I have just managed to boot onto a linux operating system and played a full 6 minute youtube video without any issue so it has to be the driver thank god !

Thanks for everyones help this evening i will try and do a BIOS update, do all the latest drivers for everything else and then give catalyst 14.7 a go !

Ill check back tommoro with an update and what i did if i manage to fix it !!
 
Just Tried a fresh install of 8 and the same thing has happened again so i have got rid of 8 and have just done a fresh reinstall of windows 7 home and the problem persists. I think i may have to return this card and just pick up a 770 or a 780 :(
 
Driver cleaner is a load of crap haha. I have done a complete fresh reinstall and just put on the chipset and the graphics driver and the problem still occurs. iver tried a fresh install and every driver and it still happens both windows 7 and windows 8. It has to be a driver issue as it works in linux but i just dont understand why and ive spent around £1200 on this machine in the last month or so and it still isn't functioning as a PC never mind as a gaming rig so i think its time to throw the towel in as ive been at it all week trying to sort it out !!

sounds irritating! id be frustrated in your position
 
Yup sure am. Worst thing is im a full time I.T technician which ****es me off even more ! :L ill try it in a friends PC over the weekend and if still no luck then its going back im afraid !!
 
Just cause it works in Linux, doesn't mean it isn't the card.

It's possible that hardware acceleration isn't available in The Linux browser you are using.

Are you using chrome in windows? If you disable acceleration does it still crash?

Do games crash as we'll?
 
Im having a similar issue, with auto restart on bsod disabled i randomly get a0000001 bsods if doing multiple things with hardware acceleration. If I run flash block on mozilla then it greatly reduces the number of bsods, I have to go back to 13.12 to completely stop the issue so its definately something driver related :(

I have a 7970 in the same PC, if I connect my monitor to this then the issue goes away too (I can still use the 290 for opencl related tasks without any bsods).

It's so intermittant I wouldn't stand a chance of returning the card either.
 
Final update ! Swapped out for an R2 270x changing no software at all and it works without any issues at all so i have a DOA card.

Does anyone know the best way to get into contact with overclockers and exchange it. I have sent a web note a few days ago but no reply as of yet.
