I've purchased a used Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X but MSI Afterburner is showing 0RPM but the fans are spinning? I'm using 15.201.1151.1010 beta drivers

Also is it possible to flash a 290X BIOS?

I had this as well with both of mine. It still shows fan speed as a percentage in AB though right. I assumed it was because there were 3 non reference fans. In day to day use it doesn't make any difference though right?

My mistake, it shows around 1500RPM when graphics card is 0-40C and fan speed is 0% however I've set a custom fan profile of 0-50C is 0% and 50+ is 50% fan speed which when the graphics card temps is between 0-50C it still spins

20% is as low as my tri-x 290x will go.

It's inaudible to me at that speed.

You won't be able to flash to a 290x bios as it's only some of the first run reference 290 that could unlock to a 290x

When you set your fan speed to 20% does the fan RPM hover around 1505-1520 RPM?

I believe you can still flash it, you wont likely unlock the shaders but it will still have a new bios. Not sure why you would want to though.
If there's no benefit then I'll just stick to the current BIOS

Yeah for the best really. If you find out some people have manage to unlock the shaders, itd be worth a go though. The dual bios' biggest advantage is that you have a backup bios you can switch to instantly in case something goes wrong, seems to alleviate many of the fears associated with bios flashing

I just had a look for you and both afterburner and GPUz are reading the fan speed at around 1500 RPM.

I'd suggest its not running that fast becuase its really quiet. you should probably ignore the RPM reading and just use the % and your ears to tune it.

I'm pretty sure if you flash your card to a 290x bios it will brick the card on that bios (though you have 2 so not the end of the world). You can flash the card to a different 290 bios if you want, but I cant see what your going to gain from doing that?

Less worrying and more overclocking! You should have hynix Vram on that card, so the memory should overclock loads, and the tri-x cooler is a beast, so plenty of headroom to overclock the core too.
