R9 290 which one though?

It's also worth carefully checking the size of the cards. The Tri-X is very long, the Powercolor is quite thick with a two-and-a-half-slot cooler. Make sure you can fit them in your case.

Another good reason to go MSI, its proportions should fit in most if not all cases. :)

Adore my MSI tops out at around 70*c and low fan of around 45-50%, super quiet!

Avoid the Asus Direct CU II gets far too hot, reckon its due to no cooling on the memory and using an nvidia cooler with no customisation.

Thanks guys I not looked into the size of the cards yet but my case is corsair carbide 500r can't remember of the top my head the max card size it can hold.
Think it was 300mm

Think it was 300mm

allows you to install graphics cards of up to 452mm in length

I guess you might need to remove the top HD cage.

The Tri-X would get my vote-but not at it's £390 price tag unless you want to pay for the best 290, failing that the Msi Gaming, good all rounder.

Thanks to this thread I was able to make my mind up with regards to which R9 290 to go for as an upgrade to my XFX HD6970; I have gone for the MSI Gaming Edition. Can't wait for tomorrow now.

So with my Hard-drive cage in place I can fit cards upto 302mm. I already have the top cage removed but on looking at my other cards line up. A bigger card would hit the top cage where the DVD drives etc sit.

So 302mm to play with.

:(
Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X = 305 I have 302 Always the way.

The MSI and Powercolor are the shortest AIB cards and should fit.
