Hi, I was told this could be a good place to get some help with the issues I've been having. I recently switched from a GTX580 sli setup to a single r9 290 after picking one up at the in store AMD event last month, it mostly works fine but ocasionally i get a second or twos freeze and then stutter in mass effect 3 and payday 2. In battlefield 4 I crash out after playing for between 20mins to 1 hour mid game with a direct x error.

I've tried a fresh install of windows along with both the beta and latest "stable drivers" but still have the same issues. I originally thought it was a catalyst control centre issue as that occasionally crashed out, but even without it installed i have the freezing and bf4 issue.

thats the dx error message.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Have you overclocked the card at all?

Which drivers are you using?

i'll stick msi afterburner on and check once i get home, when i had the issues and CCC installed it was showing 55-60 degrees i when i had the issues in ME3 and payday 2. i'm currently using the latest win8 amd drivers off their website and the card is still running stock from when i bought it.

That seems a bit too low especially for a r9 290

i installed msi afterburner and it went up to 63 playing bf4 for 20 mins until it crashed.

i'm running it on everything maxed at 1920*1080 with a second monitor showing the desktop at the same resolution.

I've an i7 sandybridge with a 120gb ssd for windows 8.1, running games off a second 512 ssd. 8 gbs of ram, cpu is around 60 under bf4 as well. I run an external HDD for video storage and an internal 1tb drive for less intensive games and other storage.

I've tried both of the driver options from this page http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 8.1 - 64#amd-catalyst-packages
