R9 290X Owners Thread

Interesting guys, look what I just found on another forum about the R290/290X PCS+:

Hey Guys,

This is Raymond from PowerColor, we were contacted before about performance issue with a small batch of cards. We have a bios update now that fixes the performance issue. To get the bios update, please email me with the EAN code, Serial Number and Model number. Basically all the sticker number on the back of the card. The bios will be released on a per case basis, so please do not release it publicly as it might damage other graphic card. You can email me directly at [email protected].

Best Regards,
Raymond

So I have received a beta BIOS from Powercolor, successfully flashed the card unfortunately it has made zero difference when it comes to the performance problem :(
Basically I have a R9 290X performing at the same level as a R9 290.

Just flogging my Crossfire MSI 290x's a little, Ive found a nice stable O/C in gaming and benching, no glitching etc.

1100/1400 @ 55Mv and 50%power, does the power usage sound about right for this sort of overclock?

If I apply much more mV the temps go to high for my liking and start to throttle in benching loops.

My scores are as follows for this clock
Firestrike Extreme - 8755
Heaven - 107.6FPS 2709

Seems a little low to me whats your opinions?

You really need to post the results screens for Heaven and Firestrike Extreme.

Also the CPU spec and clockspeed.

Sorry, CPU [email protected]

Heaven was run in Ultra 1080p with 8XAA

When looking at results you really need to post the result screens as it makes things easier to check as there is other information on them other than just the overall score.

Here is some benches I have just run.

I have just run a couple of 290Xs at the same clocks and settings as yours.

I also turned off 2 cores on my 4930k so it is basically a 3770k @4.6

System ram @1866mhz 9-11-11-25

Heaven 4 - Score 2772

Firestrike Extreme - Score 9248

So yes your scores look about right.

EK Releases MSI R9 290X Lightning Full-Cover Water Block

EK Water Blocks, Ljubljana-based premium water cooling gear manufacturer, is proud to introduce the full-cover water cooling solution for the MSI R9 290X LIGHTNING series graphics cards.

EK-FC R9-290X Lightning water block directly cools the GPU, RAM as well as VRM (voltage regulation module) as water flows directly over these critical areas thus allowing the graphics card and its VRM to remain stable under high overclocks.

Base is made of nickel-plated electrolytic copper while the top is made of quality cast POM Acetal. Screw-in brass standoffs are pre-installed and allow for safe installation procedure. The cooling engine uses refined, 0.6 mm wide microchannel structure to even further improve the heat transfer while not sacrificing the famous low hydraulic restriction design.

Up to four EK-FC R9-290X Lightning series water blocks can be interconnected using various methods (EK-FC Terminal, EK-HD Tube & Adapter System or EK-FC Bridge CSQ - depending on the water block variant) which allows for hassle-free piping job. The product is available in a single variant, an aesthetic retention backplate is also available:

HIS Announces Higher Overclocked R9 290X IceQ X² Turbo Graphics Card

HIS announced a Radeon R9 290X IceQ X² Turbo graphics card with a higher GPU factory overclock of 1060 MHz. The memory on the card is left untouched at 5.00 GHz, at which it belts out a memory bandwidth of 320 GB/s, thanks to its 512-bit wide memory interface. The card is among the only R9 290 series boards featuring a blue-colored PCB, in signature HIS fashion, and an IceQ X² cooling solution with a soft-gold color shroud and back-plate. We're not sure how well that goes with blue. The cooler is a large aluminium fin-stack heatsink that's ventilated by a pair of 10 cm fans.
