R9 290X Owners Thread

i mean how much +voltage each card can take seems to be as random for most people as the silicon lottery for how good each particular gpu can o/c

I have two reference Powercolor 290x plus waterblocks arriving later today. Going to see what they're like on air for a bit before putting them under water.

What program should I be using to overclock them, and am I going to have to flash an Asus bios for voltage control or can the software programs do all that now?

Will I be voltage-limited using afterburner?

Don't forget to post a pic to get on the Roll of Honour in the OP.:)

Dont use MSIAB, use Trixx for 24/7 and mild benching. GPU Tweak with PT1 bios for benchmarking.

Will do. One of the aquacomputer blocks is blatantly a DSR/return, with a ripped up box, no seal stickers, and faint TIM fingerprints on the shrinkwrapped block. Cheeky ocuk! Still, no signs of any scratches or staining inside so not the end of the world...

Oh, and thanks for the replies. What is thought to be max safe 24/7 voltage?

1.4 to 1.45v id say actually lol, assuming you can keep VRMs and core cool. And if you can keep your card under 1v in 2d applications. If you want to stay REALLY safe then dont go over 1.25.

I have put 1.67v through my reference 290x and its still working just fine, these cards are tough.

Not going to matter if they dont let you up the volts more than +200mV, which i doubt.

Most of them, including mine only have +100mv, thats 1.3v in total, the same as the 7970 ecte...
+200mv would be 1.4v, the same as the old Asus 7970 Matrix Plat-

A lot of them do 1200Mhz on the standard 1.3v

Reference 7970s could do 1.384v, all reference 290s can do up to 2v in GPU Tweak and +200mV in Trixx.

You shouldnt use MSI AB.

Asus GPU Tweak has no voltage unlock for me.

I could check out Trix, i used to use it long before i had this GPU, but i like MSI AB OSD, and don't want to run two OC apps at the same time.

Unless i can get the OSD to run independently from MSI AB?
