The slider can go further with a switch.

Though I have a clicking noise on the fans at higher speeds which is a bit annoying.

The coolers on these cards are well up to the job and built like a tank. Try running the fans at 100% for a period of time and it should clear up.

I ran it at stock clocks and undervolted for a laugh. It hit 57C after 20 minutes

I'll give it a go. I hope the fans aren't going to fail, they sound a bit knackered.

Did yours have the same sound?

Not that I've noticed. I've had cards like that before. Just use it as normal and it should clear up, unless it's making a racket from the off.

Also make sure you've removed all the protective cellophane from the cooler & the center of the fans so none of it is fouling.

Yeah I thought it was that, but then took it off and the noise is still there

I do. Looking back i wish I'd kept one of the others i bought as one was a good clocker. I'm trying to resist simply for the reason i have 4x290X sitting spare already.

Any custom cooled card will be quieter than the reference.

It will be a nice upgrade

The cooler is a beast, I can run mine at 1200mhz on the core easily with auto fan, it still barely hits 70C.

Thinking about buying another R9 290x oc card but wondering if ! will my I5 2500k cope with it ok ? looking at 4k gaming. cheers.
