R9 290X Owners Thread

I'm going to DSR mine too, so another one in stock if people want it.

edit: anyone got a recommendation on courier to use? :p

Just FYI it's a great card, but I have 3 Titans and 1440P. The only reason I bought the 290X was out of enthusiast curiosity! And it is an amazing card, the benchmarks say it all :)

3 of them under water would absolutely annihilate the current GK110 cards in 3 way Crossfire, even on air. Well, maybe when the drivers have improved the scaling in some apps/games.

yea that would be great on ULTRA i wonder about Crossfire I will be getting my 2 - R290X on friday i think, so will post some info on that if no one that already has 2 shares the info with us :D

Scaling on my 7970 system at stock in the Beta with 3 cards was:

30fps>60fps>90fps average fps.

Considering the 290x does not excel in 1080p performance, you could possibly see 120fps average with 3 cards with peaks to 144fps and beyond when in tight spaces, with the numbers we have seen so far, I doubt it.

We are at the limits of what the CPU's can churn out and probably wont see the 144fps average breached for another 12 months.

Yeah I just can't get it to work in my pc. At work it was really good. I didn't change the gpu mv at all and it did 1100 on air with minimal temp increases. Amazing imo, just wish it would work with my system.

edit: to be precise...

Power+150 in gpu tweak
Target temp 90
Fan speed 100
Gpu clock 1100

Nothing else touched.

In heaven it hit 84c at 66 fan speed. I was impressed, knowing that I may have to return it I didn't want to push it so I didn't bother messing around with it after that.

That gave a heaven score of 1416 with the 980x cpu at 4.1GHz

I couldn't justify spending that much on a card with a poor reference cooler, I know the performance is spectacular, but if i'm spending £450 I want the mutts nutts, not a card with heat and noise issues.

I also tested the fan speeds, I found 50 to be silent. Anything above that and you started hearing it. This was in an enclosed case with office aircon whirring in the background.

I think it's common sense though, everyone knows the reference cooler is crap, if you're going to get a reference card expect to buy additional cooling.

Indeed.

That where AMD & NVidia differ though, people bang on about AMD being cheaper but they neglect to mention some of the corners they cut to get there.

If you're fine with a mild overclock I kid you not the card is practically silent when set up right...the noise/heat debate has been blown way out of the water.

An on-topic post!

Wish the mods would clear out all the whinging from this thread, people have umpteen other threads for that.

I am tired of saying it, I run my card at 1150 no extra volts and with a fan profile of 55%, no noise issues what so ever. But I gues the people without the card know better :)

Yup, It's actually possible to outscore a Titan (this was on beta6 too) with a mild OC on stock volts in Firestrike and have the card be practically unaudible. I've said it already, first few runs I did I was worried the fan wasn't even kicking in...let alone getting loud! The only thing which is questionable is the high (unofficial) TDP but shocker if I had a £ for every time a flagship cards power output made people gasp I'd be a millionaire.

If it was bad, people would be returning their cards left, right and center. I have seen one person say it was too much noise but that's it. Any GPU could be too much heat/noise/coil whine/poorer performance than expected etc but the guys who own the card are the one's who count.
