R9 290X Owners Thread

What did you do to get your 290x working in the end ranger?

edit: nvm have you confused with someone else :P They sent theirs back.

I considered sending mine back at first.

All because GPU-Z was causing problems (didn't know at the time) making it run full bore.

Happy I didn't, now I've found the right settings (50% fan speed max), it doesn't throttle and is a brilliant card.

Yeah good cards, one thing I wish I tried before sending it back was to turn ULPS off. I'm wondering if that was the issue. Ah well, only a £20 loss and I can look forward to the third party versions :)

Now that is very impressive.

Literally halving temperatures under load. Surely that gives hugh potential for overclocking? Not that these cards really need it.

I should have included this

Yes, easily.

I've not used a framerate counter yet but if I disabled V-sync I would imagine it's well over 100fps.

I think a 7970/280x would do 1080p Ultra @ 60fps without an issue.

The third party versions are going to be awesome. Hopefully tweaked PCB, def much better cooling, extras like backplates, triple fan, possibly even more vram. I might be tempted either by non rf 290x or 780ti. I want a new card to mess with :D

Any idea when were roughly expecting these awesome third part cards?

well considering most reference cards seem to be touted for 15-31st of Nov (depending on brand) according to OCUK pre-order - I'm guessing quite a while

Had a look in new gpu Z My ASIC 79.00%.
Post Yours guys. Right click on GPUz header and use read ASIC quality

I got EK waterblock+backplate coming in tomorrow :]
