R9 290X Owners Thread

i don't understand this i have 290X on full stock with 1000W PSU i7 and when i play Bf4 sometimes i get black screen and there is NOTHING i can do.... just restart it

any of you have same problem?

if yes how to fix it;(

BF4 is full of bugs, if your not getting these problems with other games, wait for a fix from DICE.

Alsorts wrong with that game, CPU spikes, Sound dropouts, crashing, i used to get black screen hanging on "logging in" that stopped when i accessed the game from another admin account on my PC.

If they don't sort the bugs in BF4, it could end up being left on the mantle piece.:p

just tried a quick go on borderlands 2, temps hit 94oC with fan @55%(switch is at uber mode).

anyone else with bioshock infinite finding that it crashes/freezes when trying to load it after exiting from another game(or even after having exited it from it for the first time then trying to load it for a second time)? when you try loading it just stays on a black screen and doesn't load, have to alt-tab out of it or press the restart on button on the case. restarting the pc then allows you to load it fine.
mot sure if its the graphics card causing that for me or something else.

It's funny you should mention that. I've been getting the exact same issue when I try to load a steam game after a session on bf4 and I'm running a 780.

A well clocked 780Ti can topple a well clocked R290X. When both on air!

On water however, that will depend, the R290X benefits far more from water than NVIDIA as it see's a much larger reduction in temperatures. :)

Hmm, I'm leaning more towards the 290X.. More vram, clocks well under water and decent temps. Mantle, pretty much high power use when watching movies is the only thing putting me off atm..

wew helped a LOT even my 290X is at 55c with 20fan not 70 like it always was!

no idea why but well thanks man!

had 2 version older bios :)

Bios often have adjustment for newer videocards

expected to be a close race.

Heaven just closed their doors boom.

If it was my money, R290X, waterblock. Because like you 4GB of RAM is the sweet spot, especially if your thinking 1440P, 1600P or 4k and latest games.

Also it seems AMD's new driver gives much larger improvements in games compared to benchmarks and its in such circumstances where R290X *MIGHT* indeed topple 780Ti or certainly match it.

The performance is incredibly close, but are awesome cards and both overclock like crazy making them even better! :D

Thanks for that, yeah think I'll grab a 290X on payday, and put it under water. Fancy a switch back to AMD, something different up until 20nm cards.
