R9 290X Owners Thread

So it looks like MSI set a limit for the amount of volts we can add of +100mv wonder if that will be enough for peole to hit 1200 core think it might be a little low on some cards oh well lets see how it goes.

Mine was 1.225V on core after +100MV it did 1175 fine.with 1.250 it would do 1200 i think.Asus bios got 1.25V as stock right?Im looping Heaven4.0 at 1100/1500 atm with 1.165 on the core.Runs perfectly and at 72C max on the mk-26.

Best I could get from the new AB was 1200/1450 on Core/Memory - just did testing by loading up the BF4 Campaign and in the first mission there's a room with a tree in it with a light shaft coming down (drops my FPS down to as low as 45fps) and just sitting there for a while.

Anything over 1200 core would give me artefacts, and anything over 1450 Memory would give me black screen crash.

@ 1200/1450, no crash, no artefacts could sit there all day it seems (I left it there for about 45 mins)

Temps never went above 48 (WC'd)

Not sure if I'll get more out of the Memory, but out of curiosity how much extra performance would I see realistically with an extra 400Mhz on Memory?

Do you have the 13.9 WHQL drivers? is so try them.

Also please send AMD a bug report so they know about this.

If the 13.9 driver doesn't fix it, i would send it back.

I think we should wait even if the 13.11 beta 9 doesn't fix the issue.

Hawaii is a brand new architecture and it hasn't been tested on the millions of different PC setups.

I will receive my fourth card today and will be able to proceed to some tests. Probably many issues incoming too ;).

Last year when AMD had poor drivers and poor support, it took them 4 months to fix an issue I had with my QuadFire 7970s.

But this year AMD is really competent with their drivers and their fix.

(refer to this thread for my past issue, sporadic hangs: http://www.overclock.net/t/1295809/...-crash-hang-freeze-galore-what-to-do-fixed/70 )

They gave me a game bundle because of the long wait, we were really few to have the issues.

Its really important to use the bug report if you want to get your issues fix. Its our responsaibility

The very latest beta drivers do not fix the issue.

Euda at Guru3D claims to have fixed his black screens by fixing the fan limit at 100%, although it's very important to note this did not change the RPM of his fan under load, or his temps. So it's suggested it's a bug is some kind of hardware or software sensor.

If anyone is interested, here is the thread:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=4701151#post4701151

The poster also tried a lot of different types of BIOS, so, make of that what you will. He put GPUZ logs in there too.

You fixed you black screen by making sure the 8-pin and 6-pin are on different rails, or did i read that incorrectly?

I think someone here http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=4700937#post4700937

...claims to have fixed it by setting the fan speed to 100%, even though this doesn't change his temps.

I give up.

The fact that everyone is now getting the BF4 key = lol, it's like the universe has designed this launch to progressively enrage me on points of principle.

Na black screen again in BF4 with system lock up, was worth a shot :) will play around with the set up more.

I only ask because the poster who claims this fixed his issue stipulated CCC - and as the RPM of the fan and the temps do not change, as we all know this not a temp issue, it might be relevant that the change is made in CCC and not something else. God knows. if this is the fix it's an insane bug.

I've seen two people who fitted aftermarket coolers to their 290x's and now having the problem. Fell so bad for them if it does turn out to be hardware :(

:D
Just to clear out - I fixed the fan speed per MSI Afterburner. If I only set a maximum fan speed of 100% in CCC, the fan will stay at maximum ~22% during heavy load which results in the black screens.
Fixing the fan of the Arctic Hybrid to 100% via Afterburner seems to completely solve the issue.

Like I said at G3D: I really hope for all of us to get the issue fixed without having to deal with such compromise as fixing fan-RPM etc. :(
