Good day everyone.

I have an HIS Digital 290X - I know, I know, not great, but with the way GPU prices are at the moment, and money being tight, I'd like to keep it running if possible.

Long story short, I was changing the rear fan in my system, lost my grip, and the fan hit the top of the PCB (no backplate). It wasn't a hard impact, but the 290X stopped working.

I studied the PCB, couldn't see anything wrong, blew off some dust..... and heard a component go 'pinging' off in to the distance. Obvious the part in question was very loose, and my blowing dislodged it. Doh! No luck in finding the part on the fully carpeted floor..... :(

While the components are obviously very small, it looks look a fairly easily soldering task if I can get a replacement part, but therein lies the problem. I contacted HIS, who stated that they didn't have the blueprints for the PCB, as I had a Reference Blower card, and they only make the PCBs for their custom cards. They stated that the reference PCBs were bought in directly from AMD.

So I contacted AMD, and they stated that they only make the GPU chips, and don't make any PCBs.....:rolleyes:

Does anyone know who made the reference 290X PCBs?

Alternatively, does anyone know what component is missing?

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated.

Images aren't showing up, need to put them on something like imgur instead of trashbucket.

Dammit - I'll try and get those re-hosted.

I think Sapphire made the reference cards.

Cheers, I'll give them a try.

Sounds crazy but have you put it in the oven for a couple of minutes

I get that this would re-flow any fractured solder joints, but like I said, I'm pretty sure that I am actually missing a part, not just looking at a loose or broken connection.

I binned one with bad memory last week. Didn't even think to hold onto it for spare components. I've got a 290x in a system, but it's in loop and the case holds the board upside down. When I get chance I'll try and ID what you have missing.

its a shunt resistor, easy to get and solder , similar to this :- http://uk.farnell.com/texas-instrum...QYASABEgIMbPD_BwE&CAWELAID=120173390000234972

Cheers - that is what I am thinking. Just need to identify the value.....

..... so if you could do that, and confirm any markings on the part, I would be very grateful. However, I know how fiddly some loops can be, so if it turns out too troublesome, no worries. Hopefully Sapphire will respond to my enquiry.
