** R9 290X Watercooling Thread **

AMD doesnt give you 1.4. MSI AB and conventional trixx only supports 1.3, and so does GPU Tweak on normal cards except for dc2 and matrix.

Only Trixx 4.4.0b mod will let you do 1.384v.

(Talking from a 7970 owners standpoint, not sure about 290x)

Your one generation behind. The asus stock r9 290x gets 1.4v through asus gpu tweak.

290x arent locked hardware wise either. You could probably get 1.8v without trying when AB and trixx are updated. Doesnt mean you should run 1.8 lol

The fact remains that most overclockers are using 1.4v to get there max oc's on stock air cooling with no cards blowing up. This guy is on water with 50c temps at load so i see no risk at all. By your reasoning there's no point in going water as all you get is lower temps and no way to go higher voltage over the stock cooler.

Do 290x scale with lower temps like Tahiti does?

There's not been enough results to say tbh. I have seen a few 1250mhz on the core with reports that people are setting 1.4v but only getting around 1.3v -+. It's to early to tell but from what i have seen better boards like the lightning are needed to stop this voltage drop. There's a good few getting water cooling on here so over the next few weeks we should see what these stock boards can do.

What setup did you come from?

I had another 3 Raystorm GPU Blocks installed.

But I can never catch a break... After everything worked fine, all of a sudden, my mainboard had some hick-ups. At first it was stuck completely, without even access to the bios, then all of a sudden a couple of minutes later it booted into Windows.

I tried Clr Cmos, what just made issues worse, as I found out later... After I cleared Cmos, it had the same hickup, but because hdds were not set to ahci anymore, it wouldn't boot from my Crucial M4 SSD.

To make matters worse, as I found out later, this might have been due to the bios version of the ****** Gigabyte UD3 and could have been fixed by updating bios, which I now could not do anymore, because after clearing CMOS Windows didn't start anymore and because BIOS was inaccessible, this problem could not be solved...

I bought a X79 Fatal1ty Pro now which I should have done in the first place.

Man I sometimes hate computers...

Are you guys getting to 1300Mhz? Anyone got a 3DMark Firestrike Extreme score near 6100? (The supposed score of the new 780ti).

1320mhz is the best on water out there yet.

Single 290X

x score 6002

AMD Radeon R9 290X(1x) @1230/1625

Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition Processor @4.8

That's the best score on here so far. Was done by Kaapstad

good by any standard.:)

Just to clarify, that 6100 score is for a 780Ti overclocked to 1246 core.

yea, and wont suprise me how good the 290 will perform either under water.
looking forward to that

EK block + backplate

Will take a while to get ridge of small bubbles in system but temps looking good :]

LOL those are going to be nasty temps, jesus christ.

I feel my 360+240 isnt enough, and that's with GT's on the rads in a Carbide 540..

Presume the piping going out the back goes to an external rad, can't be a single 140.

Single 360 here HW Labs Ice Extreme. Cooling my 3820 @ 4.7 and the 290X at 1050, max temp in BF4 so far is 53c. Same playthrough was hitting 95c on air this morning.
