R9 380 fan speed issue

Just fitted the card and luckily I was keeping my ear open for fans and watching temps, card was supposed to be cool and quiet only to find fan stuck at 20% and temperatures rising.

A quick Google and it seems I am not the only one having issues.

Uninstalled, cleaned in safe mode etc but no joy on any Crimson driver so now using latest 16.1s and using Afterburner to control fan.

I am sure some people will be cooking cards if they have the same software issue :(

16.1 is crimson and the fan control should be normal just go into overdrive and make it automatic control

and be sure no other control software is interfering

I thought it would work but it doesn't. Works fine with Afterburner which I only installed after failing to get drivers to control the fan.
Maybe there are still some old driver files hanging around as my install is very old but cant bring myself to reinstall windows.

How far did the temperatures rise while the fan stayed at 20%, and which model of R9 380 do you have? I know some cards are designed to stay at a very low fan speed until the temps get quite high and only then ramp up so the card stays as quiet as possible.

you shouldn't have this issue if the drivers are up to date, maybe you locked it at 20% with some option in some software and you didn't pay attention to it.

Sapphire Radeon R9 Nitro 380 4096MB got to 85, what temp is normal under load for card ?

Yes, that was where I was monitoring temps and fan.
Installed CCC 15.10 and fans work fine keeping temps around 65 under load, very odd!

Well finally reinstalled windows 10 and with the crimson drivers the fan will not work on auto, I can set it manually but just want to play and forget.
Back to CCC 15.11.1 which work fine, filed a bug report and hope it gets sorted at some stage
