Hi All

I have a problem on the 2nd PC its recently built but im getting constant driver crashes from AMD with the message "Display Driver AMDKMDAP stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

the card is new, All drivers up to date i have reinstalled them again too. Also updated bios etc trying to solve this issue, It seems to crash within the first 5-10 mins of playing games. starting to get frustrating now and the MRS is loosing her patience with "the PS4 does not do this" lol

any one ever come across this ?

Edit: The error does not come up only shows in event viewer.

further info

Gcard: Radeon R9 390 Gaming Edition 8192MB
CPU i5 4690k
nothing overclocked.
Does it in the new COD and GTAv (but not in the sims) thats all she plays

ok little more info just played cod for 2 mins and Crash again this time an error popped up saying

"DirectX Error: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG[0x887a0005]"

its getting worse by the hour now cannot play games for more than 2-3 mins

What psu is it running from? Have you got anything like MSI Afterburner installed to check what temperatures it's reaching?

funnily enough i have just started the game again with MSI on, I am also going to try increasing the volts a little as its the MSI one and wondering if the stock factory overclock is causing issues.

the PSU is a corsair cx600m with 46amps on the 12v rail so plenty of juice for a single 390 (especially at stock speeds)

OK so upping the volts has not helped. however check this out "sorry its a pic of the tv screen lol. the GPU usage while gaming is up and down like a yoyo (yet in game is smooth fps... what on earth is that about ?

Temps hitting 65c on 20% fan speed

Blimey that is a weird one, not seen that before. Does it do that (and crash) on everything 3d, can you try some things like Heaven bench or 3DMark?

Device hung isn't a good sign tbh.. Something is up with either the GPU or another component. Check psu power cables, check ram with memtest86, and if possible test GPU in another system.

Edit
GPU usage can be up and down if you hitting your max set frame rate. For example if you have 60hz and use vsync if you get 60fps then the GPU will not need to work that hard hence the usage up and down.

You said the second PC, Try your other pc's card in it if possible and the 390 in the other pc. See where the issue goes if it in fact does.

EDIT: Just saw the under wet stuff message, Have you a friend or relative with a PC you can use nearby?

If you can't test it and you have a good psu running it (so you know it isn't an issue with that) send it back.

second PC is water cooled so changing cards is a bit of a PITA, TBH its getting worse and worse all the time and im starting to loose my rag with it. This AMD software sucks B@lls and now i can adjust the screen edge's as the catalist thing has gone after the win 10 update.

Just getting these errors within mins of running games... tbh think im at the stage im just gunna send the card back and grab a nvidia. My first AMD card in years and even tho frame rates are great cant help but think the nvid option will leave me pain free

Might be the game?

My Sapphire Nitro R9 390 crashes without fail if I run the UE4 Elemental demo in DX12, just after the ice monster breaks free of the rocks. DX11 version runs fine.

maybe i would love to get to the bottom of it but i have lost patience with it tonight. Will try having another look tomorrow. wanted to play games tonight and now spent the last 2 hours trying to get to the bottom of it.

Try using DDU from guru3D after restart install 15.11 driver make sure you select correct version windows 10 64bit and GPU series.

I see you already jumping at the blame game and thinking it's software issue but don't be surprised if this is an hardware problem..

Device hung is mostly a hardware issue. The reason is windows is loosing the GPU this can be because loss or power or the GPU failing.

OK do quick update, I used the driver cleaner reinstalled latest drivers and so far so good. Just played cod for 45 mins with not so much as a glitch. Going to keep an eye on it and if it does it again its going back.

Thats good news I think the issue might be from you having the stock Windows 10 driver for the GPU.
After Windows 10 update you will need to re-install most software. When I updated from Windows 8.1 to 10 I had the stock driver from Microsoft I needed to Re-install AMD driver..

Try never to use Microsoft Drivers there design is just to have the system up and running.

I had the same issue with PCS+ 390. 15.9 beta drivers seemed to cure it. (tried about 5 sets of drivers before)

it's annoying though coming from Nvidia which did not have these issues.
