Hi, not sure if this is the right forum, couldn't find a "help" section. I've just bought a b-grade asus r9 280x from OC and fitted it once I got home but it's just not booting.

I've got an antec 550w PSU and have got the spare 6 pin cable out of the box to connect to the card, along with the PCI-e one that's already on there. Both the leds on the card light up green and the fans/hd run but just nothing on screen. Along with no beep on boot (usually just one beep).

I checked with a VGA cable instead of hdmi, tried plugging into TV too, still black screen. Checked the power consumption, it's 300w I think. I only have HDD plugged in (tried without too, no difference) so power should be ample.

There was no manuals/cables with the card so wasn't 100% I plugged power cables in, so I tried with just one six pin cable too, then it didn't boot but I got only one green led, the other was red. So if they're both green I take it it's powered up enough?

Plugged my old card back in and it boots no problem.

Any ideas? After a two hour drive I'm quite gutted :(

Cheers.

Sounds like you've got the power connectors correct. What motherboard are you running, and are you running the latest BIOS for it? Some boards (mostly Gigabyte) can be quite sensitive to this and not play nicely with newer GPUs on older boards.

Other than that, sounds like you've covered most things to me. Don't suppose you (or a friend) have another PC you could try the GPU in to see if it has the same issue? (If you're close to Gillingham you're welcome to come and try it in one my PCs, but you mention a two hour drive to OcUK HQ, which doesn't sound long enough to be from my neck of the woods)

Good few hours later I sussed it out (read: fluked it).

I changed some settings in the bios using my other card, graphic init or something and after a few goes it worked, not sure exactly what fixed it, can't be bothered putting my other card back in if it breaks again!

Was about to give up and send it back too :)

Cheers for the help dudes, and thanks for the offer Stu!
