HI, ive been looking for a new RTS game to play and i think ive narrowed it down to these 2.

my question is which 1? is Red Alert 3 really as bad as people have been maknig out out to be? i haven't heard a good wordc on the forums every time its mentioned.

as for supreme commander, am i too late to pick this up?

ive played:

Age of Empires 2
Age of Empires 3
C&C Generals, Red Alert, Re Alert 2.
Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2 (admittedly haven't played the sequal much tho, couple of single player campeigns...)
Age of Mythology

any other recommendations would be nice along with opions, thanks :)

Spring engine, it's open source/free and there is a Total annihilation based mod (balanced annihilation).
Pretty much a multiplayer game (max of 8v8), but there are some singleplayer AI bots, I don't know how good they are.

No the greatest graphics in the world, but runs well and has a decent size community of players, a couple of other mods that people play, and lots of little widgets to help etc.

Screenshots here: http://spring.clan-sy.com/media.php although most of those are from the CA mod, not BA, which has better visuals and a slightly different style of gameplay.
There's kind of a newbies guide here: http://spring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=328473
IMO the game has a steep learning curve, so it's best to spectate some games first and play offline to get the general idea of whats going on.

I haven't played supcom, but I had the RA3 beta and could not stand playing it, was a horrible game.

Supreme Commander by miles, I was dissapointed by RA3. You can pick up Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance Pack cheaply now, theres no excuse if your into these games :p

I LOVE RA games, but RA3 destroyed it, was way too gimmicky and dull. Units were lame, felt wrong, and I had the single worst bug I've ever seen in an RTS. Basically whenever I clicked somewhere, to tell a unit to move, about 1 in 4 times, ALL of my units would move back to my base. Made it impossible to keep harvesters mining, and also to keep strategic holds on places >.>.

Coming from an AOE background, I thought RA3 really is ****.

As for Supreme commander, I think you should try the demo first. Also try out Company of Heroes..

just a bit of advice. I wouldn't take these forums too seriously when it comes to opinions on games, they get it very very wrong a lot of the time. If you want to try a game, get the demo and see if you like it yourself. There's been several occasions where people on here have said a game is complete crap but I've played the demo and it turned out to be a damn good game.

supcom is utter win. Ive seen forged alliance expansion for 14.99 before xmas so im sure its less now.. U do need a beefy pc to run the big battles but your sig says you are ok there.

I got RA3 too and while it is an ok RTS, its no where near as good as generals or the original ra.

definately supreme comander. i loved that game when i had a pc capable of playing it. i wonder if it will run on my laptop....hmm... gonna find out later i reckon! i think it relies more on cpu power rather than GPU. because of the amount of units you and the other player can build.

i've never played Sup Com

I think i have it here somewhere too, was online for 2.99 or something daft..!
