Rabbit Advice

Our 4 year old has been asking for a rabbit for months, so we've decided to explore the possibility further. I popped into Pets At Home today and they recommended a breed named 'Lion Head' as being suitable for young children as they are apparently quite calm and don't mind being handled. I wondered if any of you had kept rabbits before and could confirm that to be the case? Or perhaps suggest other appropriate breeds?

Thanks for all the comments so far. Have been looking on the Pets4Homes web site and there's loads of breeders there selling Mini Lops. Cute!

They are also much cleaner than rabbits. So many times I've heard of rabbits having to be put down due to flystrike.

I was told about that today. The guy said that as long as you give them food that doesn't have too much moisture, like cucumber or lettuce, then they should be fine. More BS?
