Race Driver - GRID

Always liked the Codemasters Race Driver series.

It looks like this is trying to be a hybrid between GT and NFS now though

Hey,

Indeed it does look promising, and i am a big car racing fan. Already a big fan of Forza and PGR i am hoping for something in between. I really hope they haven't steered towards NFS:Pro Street as i really hated that game. Burnout is a fun game to play, and i played it a bit at UE's LAN but it wasn't my cup of tea.

I spoke to someone yesterday and they said the in game footage he saw somewhere made it look very NFS, especially with the drift races. The teaser trailer on the official site is very nice, but it isn't in game. The way the camera arrives in like a Helicopter is awesome. I look forward to seeing more info and possibly some in game footage. It's being made by Codemasters who made the Toca series so this could/should be an excellent racer.

Another good reason for me to get one of those Racing seats and a G25 :D

Wouldn't mind hearing from those who went to that Games show at the weekend what impression they got from it. I don't think it could compete with GT5. GT5 is a massive game and the full release is going to blow away any competition with the long list of cars, tracks, impressive graphics, in-car view, etc.

I do like the fact that from the video there will be damage. One of the annoying things in PGR4 is you get some mug behind you plough through you on a corner, and get away without any penalty. If you do that in this game it looks like you would kill your car....

To me PGR4 was a huge letdown.....I enjoyed 3 allot more. 4's graphics were frankly rubbish.
Not a fan of the Need for Speed series so I hope that Codemasters do steer away from that kinda feel.... if you know what I mean

Would love to hear some proper hands on views, but like you said we should hopefuly hear more in due course.

I just know GT5 is going to make me want to get a PS3 again....dammit lol

This is a common comment by a lot of people who played PGR3. I got my XBox just before PGR4 was released and i had never played a PGR game before. I can whole-heartedly say it is my favourite title on the XBox. the Single Player isn't all that i agree, but i love playing it online. It is a superb fun game to play online if you have a group of mates who play with you. PGR4 did i guess, bring very little difference/change to the die har PGR fans. The weather system is superb though and i find it quite realistic and you do have to adjust your driving style and car to suite.

The DLC was a bit of a let down, there is only one car you can use to compete, and that is the M3 in D class as i HATE the Diablo. :D

I didn't play the full version, and i was tempted to get it as graphically it looked very nice. I played the Demo and hated the handling and how unrealistic is seemed. It could have, and should have been an excellent release. I loved NFS: Underground and Most Wanted.

Haha yea, i am considering getting a PS3 just for GT5, but it is a lot of money. Not sure if i can afford £300 just for it. I will wait until one of my mates get it on release day, then go over there place and have a go before i buy :)

I saw it at the games show, it look like good, but not GT5 good, more like a step up from dirt. You could see the difference as they was both there, the GT5P was packed out with people, the grid was pretty empty though. Think it will be a good driving game the damage looked well done, as it was in dirt but it just didnt do anything for me to be honest. Maybe if it was playable i may have changed my mind from its ok to wow, but not knowing how well the game drives of the "feel" of it im still undecided.

i was looking foward to this game but after reading a preview it sounds like they are doing away with british touring cars , the DTM german series and australian v8 series, if im not mistaken are'nt those 3 series the ones that made toca race driver so sucessfull in the first place , it sounds like they are making racedriver grid appeal more to american and japanese game fans

well disapointed the toca series was my favourite game of all time on the ps2 , europe and australia are being shafted yet again

heh - screw Codemasters, they screw SWOS - fingers crossed this burns and they go under

if its good i might still get it but , the v8s and british touring car championship gone:( , whats that about, codemasters have even said there making it less simulation like , hav'nt we got enough arcade racing titles:(

the ps3 needs a top racing sim and i cant see GRID being it:mad:

Er..... GT5 is out at the end of the month mate.

Anyone got a source for this new info? Don't read everything gaming sites print.

oh i forgot about gt5p , but to me toca race driver and gt5 were slightly different in terms of effects/crash damage , thats why im disapointed that race driver grid has gone a bit arcade/nfs route

There is also the Ferrari game out in the middle of April for the PS3, its supposed to be a sim type driving game with full damage. link for more info http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/845/845289p1.html

not bad for replays, does look good though, think it'll be more arcade than anything - will deffo be getting this nearer the time

to be honest - im not a massive race fan
i liked forza but im not big into these 'serious' driving games
i saw GRID in a magazine and it just caught my eye - i normally ignore racing games progress - but i am intersted to see how this one pans out

btw - i have no interest in GT5 AT ALL

looking at the trailer it does look good , in it theres a load of bmw's racing is that a german race series?

my only dissapointment is why o why did they do away with the british touring car championship:(

Video looks good for the PC version wonder what spec it will have to be to look like that ;) Anyway car models are nice, but them and lighting are way behind GT5 in my opinion, still looks good, but i wonder how well it plays? I wonder as its on the same engine as Dirt if the PS3 version will be the "lead" format as i recall Codies saying Dirt on the PS3 was the better console version as the engine was designed for it?
