Are there any good wheels that dont have to be mounted to the desk.

Like a wheel with a heavy base or something like that, mounting a wheel then keeping it is a pain as I have to move everything out of the way. Got a small desk.

Cheers

Also I saw something called a simraceway wireless wheel on this forum, would that be a good purchase if mounting a wheel is too awkward?

I saw something similar for the xbox - wireless speed wheel, would that work on pc? I have a small desk, its also a low desk and tried a wheel but I couldn't turn it very well was like driving a bus. Thought it might be a decent alternative and a step up from a gamepad which I'm using atm.

Ta :)

Right. Got myself a thrustmaster f430 and I think it is quite brilliant...BUT I would like some advice as to how to master using it.

In non sim games eg f1 2010 its fine, very direct and responsive but in race 07 I keep fighting understeer and I'm steering with my right foot.

Any advice as to how I can overcome this quickly? I'm using slightly higher steering lock than normal, lowered coast diff to 15% and lowered front roll bar to lowest setting above 0. Also steering sens in options is at 75%.

I'm starting to get my eye in but I'm finding progress slow when I could just plug in my gamepad and smash my wheel times. Anything else I can do to make learning the wheel faster? Thanks.

Check the advanced settings for the wheel in the game.

Some of the default settings for stuff like linearity and dead-spots are terrible!

On DiRT3, the defaults were something like 4 for the linearity, which meant that it wasn't as sensitive in the middle as it is at the extremes - which as a person who drives a real car, seemed terrible! It also had something like a 15% deadzone, so you had to move the wheel 15% in either direction from the middle before it even registered a change!!

I've set the linearity to 0 and the deadzone to 0 too, and it has made a massive difference! :)
