Wanted to post this thread in the hope of getting some advice on how to be good at racing games! I have a wheel (G25) and recently bought the Codemasters racing games pack and have been playing Dirt2. Basically, I am struggling to beat anybody on any levels above Easy-Normal! Is it more a matter of buying new cars and upgrading cars so that I would one day be able to beat the Ken Block time trial?

Not a particularly good driver but am improving. Am interested in getting F1 2010 when it comes out.

Does anybody have any advie about setting up your controllers, sensitivity, car setups and improved driving?

Advice appreciated, thanks.

Do you think the wheel might be making things harder? i.e have you tried with an x-box pad or the keyboard?
I was able to win races on the 3rd difficulty setting with a keyboard, and i am by no means an expert at racing games - i hadnt played any for years.

If you are using the G25 what settings are you using? You may want to lower the turning degrees if you have that too high. For Dirt I keep mine fairly low at around 200-250.

codies games are probably easier using a game pad.

Sad but true.

Anyway, it's not really about new cars in Dirt 2. You can win pretty much any challenge/track/trial with any car available to that event. Car setups are also largely irrelevant though you can gain few precious seconds by doing that. You just need practice and more practice and if you want to stick with the wheel, as someone already said, try to reduce the degree of rotation by a lot, down to 250 or so. In twitchy racing games like Dirt 2, it really helps.

Also always remember almost no matter the car you're driving: brake before the corner and try to get through the corner with as much gas as possible. Braking during the corner means your exit speed is usually terrible and the longer the straight after the corner, the more you lose. Though with rally cars, it's not as critical as with track cars.

I think so, its getting there. Still trying to beat Block on the Battersea Time Trial, got to within 2.57 seconds of his time, so nearly there!! Do you unlock more tracks by completing the time trials and stuff like that?

Tried that first level in Croatia! Man that is hard! It's so narrow! I had barely any car left by the end of it.

Sounds like you might be over turning a bit too, I find in Dirt 2 less movement of the wheel = better a part from the hairpins etc :p But try not over react to powerslides and slight wobbling of the car due to bumps.
