after playing the grid demo, which i thought was pretty class i was thinking about other pc racing games i could try, what other good ones are there with demos out?

also are there any games were you work to earn money to buy new cars/upgrade and modify?

TDU has elements of this though the upgrade/modify bit is rather lightweight. Juiced 2 has some positives though the handling is poor. NFS Pro Street is very similar to Grid in some ways and is actually not all that bad once you get a feel for it. Many users report it feeling rather laggy though despite high fps. The 1.1 patch seems to address this to an extent but forces a 30fps limit regardless of vsync settings.

Live For Speed has 'Cruise Servers' where the idea is to drive about earning credits which you can then use to buy the faster cars. There are cops/robbers etc I think.

I've no idea how it works, but it has a large following amongst those who are too slow to race properly :p

That is One Classy Line
I'd say you need Forza2 but that is on the manbox not the PC. I think LFS & RF will be to Sim for you so I am at a loss at what to suggest.

30fps cap, on a PC game? That's appalling!

the weird thing is that it feels less laggy at 30fps than it does at 50-60 (pre-patch). I have no idea what EA did with the engine but its not good. Graphics are nothing stunning. Don't know if the lag is down to particular hardware but it was totally unplayable for me before the 1.1 patch.

Grid's out on Friday, just buy that. Needless to say there is a severe lack of racing games on the pc that sit in the middle of arcade and sim. There is no Gran Turismo or Forza equivalent. Seriously hoping that Grid is gonna tick all the boxes. Even gone as far as pre-ordering it which I think is the first time I've ever done that. Was impressed enough with the demo to warrant a purchase.
