Hi all,

Ive just taken delivery of a 19" enclosure that i am using to house the main items for my home network and media server.

I currently have a standard consumer sky wireless-n router. i was wondering if the are any products out there that allow a router like this to be mounted into an enclosure and if not can anyone recommend a rack mounted router.

Kind Regards
Paul Cooper

I use to use a LINKSYS 8 port gigabit switch SD2008, which came with brackets to screw on the side, so you could rack mount it, when I had sky broadband.

Only thing I could find suitable for my home network to use with the sky router.

EDIT: Got the Linksys off Ebay, actually worked out cheaper than buying rack shelves in my case.

i was looking for a more secure way of mounting the router in the enclosure, thank you for the sudgestion though. The SD2008 would be a waste as i already have a HP V1410 16port switch :/

I'm not suggesting buying a SD2008, just pointing out the fixing method.

Well then, your HP switch should have come with two angled brackets to screw to the sides for mounting it in to a rack.
There is a set of four holes on each side, wont get a more secure fitting method then the brackets supplied.

If you wish to keep your router then a rack shelf and some long cable ties are the best way to secure it, this is what we do on customers sites where there are often odd little boxes, psus etc that just don't exist in a rack format.

I also have used Heavy Duty 50mm wide Self Adhesive Velcro, stick one piece to the shelf & one on the item,( cut size to suit) it will go nowhere.

Build a router

Something like a firebox x700 running pfsense/untangle/m0n0wall/smoothwall and a modem :)
