Hi

I've got a Dell R200 server and want to sort of "refurbish" it, very inexpensively as it's not going to be used as a "production" machine.

It's got an Intel Xeon E3110 @ 3.0GHz (LGA775), 4GB RAM, 2x250GB drives.

I'm going to be putting a 120GB SSD inside as I've already got one of those. I'm not sure how much RAM I can go up to or how much it can support.

What would you do to it, in terms of upgrades?

Thanks.

I have an R200 as well and unfortunately the maximum memory it'll support is 8GB. I had a bit of a mare trying to get the right memory for it too. CPU support is also quite limited.

I upgraded mine to 8GB RAM, a PCI-X/PCIe riser, QLogic FC HBA and a DRAC.

Thanks, RAM on Crucial's site seems expensive?

The current RAM is PC2-6400E. What would you recommend?

How much are Crucial after? I paid £78 plus the VAT for 4x2GB modules from Mr Memory (.co.uk, search for dell r200). They're PC2-5300, does the job. I bought some modules from eBay initially and they were completely wrong.

Chuck it in the bin -- it's not worth spending a penny on something as old and noisy and power-hungry as this. That CPU has half the processing power of my laptop (and my laptop has a "U" processor -- ultra-low-power).
