Rack Shelving for Server Cabinet

I guess I need to trust things more. It's the first time I've had my own cabinet, and seeing things screwed in just from the front holding up entire 4u systems is kind of unnerving the first time :)

Cheers.

theres not a chance that can hold 60kg. i wouldnt trust it AT ALL.

The problem isnt that the shelf isnt strong enough, it probably is; but the front rails of your cabinet will bend as the shelf cantilevers down at the back. Truly crappy solution to anything heavy. Get a shelf which has rear supports too and you will be fine. Only use those shelves for light stuff like modems, keyboards, mice et al.

This is the thing you want for putting heavy items on. Just make sure you order it for the depth of your cab.

We once attempted to install a APC SmartUPS3000 which is a rack mounted UPS, which happens to only come with front supports. It wieghs 55kg, and as soon as we attached to the front of the rack it proceeded to twist the front rails! doh! I knew it wouldnt work, but like you trusted the marketing blurb.

You must have only got half the kit! They come with front to back metal rails which are just a little lip for the UPS to rest on.

If you plan on putting a lot of stuff on a shelf though, get one that attaches at 4 points rather than just the front though, it is true!

Indeed, but the stupid sales rep pleaded ignorance and we had to order them seperately. definately didnt come in the box. hey ho. we ripped them all out anyway eventually and replace with a room solution.

As said anything with some weight behind it is best for a four poster shelf. That is the reason the racks have 4 posts.

Just to chime in about the APC situation that Mike had. We had the same problem with 0 instructions and krypton factor style bits of metal and screws of varying shapes and lengh I just said F it and placed it in the bottom of the rack where it was going to get mounted anyway. Cant be messing around with trying to install kit that's that heavy by myself with poor instructions.

One of our clients has two of the same style shelves holding some APC Smart UPS 3000's completely fine for years now.

Personally wouldn't chance it with something as heavy as a UPS though
