Rackspace - alternatives?

Hi all,
After today's Fasthosts Dedicated Server issues, i've decided i need to look at jumping ship. I like the look of the service that Rackspace claim to offer, but i'm wondering who their nearest competitors are? I need to host 30-50 websites, some e-commerce, and need a good uptime guarantee. It needs to be Linux based, and allow PHP/MySQL and SSH access.

Any suggestions for who Rackspace's competitors are?

Do you really need a dedi? Have you tried a VPS?

My suggestion would be a2b2.com for both.

Rackspace are very expensive, don't expect a dedicated server to be any less than £300 per month.

I echo Kemik's thoughts. A VPS would do you well.

We use Rackspace and they are awesome, however we do pay about £600 a month so they should be.

Have used them for more than a year now and the service is first class.

If you can afford it then they are worth it but there are probably cheaper options out there.

Fasthosts are considered a cheap budget host compared to Rackspace and friends (I work for one) - prices will be massively different.

Anyway to answer your question. You can find their main rivials my googling "managed server hosting".

Thanks for the replies. Yes, had a quote from Rackspace now and they are more expensive than a lot of places. However, the service looks great. Will look at some of the other managed hosts to see what i can find out.
