My coolant seems to be loosing a fair amount (the tank) over 800 miles or so! The oil looks fine (colour wise) and its using a little of that also (litre for every 2/3k miles). Im not sure where the water is coming out as it never drips however at night when idling in traffic i notice an odd whisper of steam infront of the headlights..

So how do i test where its going and has it got anything to do with the oil?

R Plate Vectra Auto 146k miles

Cheers guys.

Have a look around the radiator, it must be leaking somewhere. I find a good trick is to place a peice of cardboard under the engine/rad etc.. and check it in the morning (provided it has not rained) - should give you an idea.

With coolant though you may find it doesnt leak unless the engine is running (water pumping round the system / under more presure).

Check the exhaust aswell, warm the car up and give it some revs if lots of white smoke/coolant comes out then your headgasket is leaking...although you have checked the oil so im guessing that was your first worry.

Gave that a go and can see no leaks, was worried about the HG but oil seems fine

Guess im going to take it to a garage to get them to pressurise it.
