Well I have the above card & bcoz I play WoW in 1920x1200 i have pretty bad fps rates. How much of an improvement could i expect from slapping in an Rad X1900 or a Invidia 7900GTX?

Bearing in mind neither of these are cheap id be pretty miffed if i wasnt noticing much of a difference. Any suggestions much appreciated :)

Baring in mind an X700pro is about the same as the old 9800pro then either of those cards would make an absolutely massive difference to your frame rates and the quality settings you could use. It will depend slightly on the rest of your PC but I'm assuming if it is PCI-E then it ought to be at least half-way decent to begin with.

I have an amd 3800 x2 thingy, 2gig ram bla bla so its definately just my gfx card thats holding me back i believe. Can I presume both your replies relate to both the upgrade options i mentioned? Or is there a prefered one?

My reply relates to both, the X1900XT is marginally more powerful(talking pretty small amounts in some games), can do AA+HDR together, is a little bit noisier and a little bit more power-hungry. The 7900GTX can't do AA+HDR but is still a very good card and if you use Linux Nvidia has better drivers.

I'd probably go for whichever one was cheapest as either would be a huge jump.

The X700 is definitely the bottleneck, your CPU and memory are very high-end. As for choosing between an X1900XT or 7900GTX, I would personally choose the X1900 as it's slightly faster in most games and costs less. It's also louder and runs hotter, though, so keep that in mind when making your decision.

I'm astonished that you can even play WOW at that res with that card

My missus has an x700 Pro and it's a crackin little card......at 800x600 and 1024x768.

Either of the cards you mention would be a huge improvement. And if you don't want to spend that much there are other cards a bit lower down the range that would still make a mockery of your x700 :)

At present this is a great buy...
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-112-SP)
Available This Week Only for just £214.95 +VAT.

or

HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-043-HT)
Available This Week Only for just £174.95 +VAT.

(very close to the performance of an X1900XT).

Best topend bang per buck cards imo.

Super helpful replies all. Thank you. After reading certain posts I think i will go for the 7900gtx. You say its slightly slower but by the sounds of it both cards are so superior to my current one i wouldnt notice a difference.

Atm my system is so quiet i love it, hardly notice its on sometimes, so im not keen on ruining that. The quieter of the two is for me :)

If you like super quiet, both will be too loud. :p You could buy either and also get a Zalman VF900-Cu cooler for it, they're extremely quiet. :)
