Hi guys
just got hold of a new ATI Radeon HD 3850 512MB card. but im having problems in windows vista x64. the game i have tried are. return to castle wolfenstein and farcry. both games are doing the same thing. they start to get jerky and slow down. sometimes if i keep my finger on the walk button i move forward then stop. i then start to move again for a few seconds before it does it again.

I did a clean install of windows vista and i have checked that the card is not getting to hot. tried different drivers but it still keeps doing it. i was wondering if any of you guys have had this problem with the same card.

Thanks guys

No problem with the card here but i am on a 32 bit Vista OS so i wouldn't know if there are any problems on the 64-bit editions of those games. Your card should handle those two games very well aswell since RTCW is quite old and Farcry ain't new either. I would start blaming the OS but i am not sure. Have you tried running 3Dmark2006 and see how your card performs there. That should shed some more light into the situation.

Hi
well i did do a clean install because i was getting this problem before. so i was thinking i would just do a format and wipe the drive to see if that would sort it out. i did run the card in 3Dmark2006 and it worked fine. even if i click on the demo in farcry it works fine to. its just starts as soon as i get in to the game .

i forgot to say that somtimes when the game locks up i get a message that says ( Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered )

Mine did that (mainly in menus of games, and kept bombing out too) and it needed to be RMA'ed

My replacement one doesn't have any issues.

Hi
so did you find that all of your games where running slow ? like you take a few steps and stop for a few seconds before you can move off again

On the odd occasion I was able to get into a game and play it would exhibit the same behaviour as your card did. Most often though I'd not be able to get into the game before it would crash with a VPU recover error.

I suspect yours may be overheating. You could try Rivatuner and try to turn up the fan a little and see if it goes away.....
