Radeon 4850 HD fan problem

Hi all,

Fan on my gfx card making unbearable rattling noises that are now waking me up at night ><. Don't really have the money to replace it but was wondering if there was a cheap fan replacement that's easy to install for a novice?

Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to replace just the fan on your cooler.

You'd probably need to replace the cooler as a whole, and this graphic cooler should be a good option:

Depends on the cooler and card. I had 2x 92mm fans cable tied to my old 4850 back in the day

Here's my 6950 with the fans from an AC Twin Turbo strapped on

Ghetto cooling is very possible

Also, check and double check before buying an aftertmarket cooler for your 4850, there were loads of non reference boards made which may or may not fit the Akasa

Cheers for the advice. Any chance you'd be able to give a quick walkthrough of how to install it and what i'd need to take out of my case (as i said, novice here and most i've ever done with hardware is add some RAM).

Have you tried dedusting the card yet? Getting rid of the dust in the card can do wonders temp and noise wise.

Rattling sound probably mean the fan bearing is shot, rather than spinning too far l think.
