You can get a 1GB for £145.
I just went from a HD4870 512mb to a GTX470 1280mb. I was looking at the 460 for its attractive price, but I went for the 470 as price/performance seemed better. It has not dissappointed.
As title suggests really - only main concern is going from 1GB to 768MB memory. I game at 1920x1080 and like to use 4xAA if possible.
These cards just seem SOOOO cheap right now.
Thanks
PS I will be overclocking.
I think a 6850 @ £135 is your best choice, as it is 1gb and spanks the 460 768mb.

But an overclocked 460 1GB can match a 6870 for only £152Heat and noise not an issue with the Gigabyte or MSI cards according to reviews & personal testimony.
As shown in the anandtech review, You don't want heat or noise then stay away from a 470, go 460 1GB as you have stated you want to green, and overclock it for great bang for the buck performance.

Pretty sure this is just your assumption, or you are thinking some cards with crap cooler. Gigabyte's cooler is quiet up to 70% fan speed, and only start to become 'noticable' beyond that according to people that have it, and I don't see the GTX460 will become as hot as you claim, considering the GTX460 can reach 800MHz on stock voltage.Yes but your relying on the cards being able to clock well past 800mhz, and by the time it does, power consumption is at GTX470 levels and the card is no longer silent, in which case he might as well get a 470.
I presume the Gigabyte 460 overclocked to 800Mhz+ will obtain similar results to the EVGA 460 (factory overclocked at GPU 850MHz, Shader 1700MHz, 4000MHz GDDR5) in this review: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3987/...enewing-competition-in-the-midrange-market/19Yes but your relying on the cards being able to clock well past 800mhz, and by the time it does, power consumption is at GTX470 levels and the card is no longer silent, in which case he might as well get a 470.

If you look at the graphs, they're no where near the levels of the 470 in either heat, noise or power.
