As title suggests really - only main concern is going from 1GB to 768MB memory. I game at 1920x1080 and like to use 4xAA if possible.

These cards just seem SOOOO cheap right now.

Thanks :D

PS I will be overclocking.

£120 mark.

Hmmm... just read a review, and it had the card up against a 5770 (so, basically my card) and they were quite similar.

Maybe that lack of memory does hurt it then at 1080p.

I just went from a HD4870 512mb to a GTX470 1280mb. I was looking at the 460 for its attractive price, but I went for the 470 as price/performance seemed better. It has not dissappointed.

I'd really like to switch to the green team (sorry 68**) and go GTX 470, but was mostly worried about the noise above everything else. Am also not prepared to start carving a new card up to add a custom cooler.

Which model do you have, and how do you find the noise?

I think a 6850 @ £135 is your best choice, as it is 1gb and spanks the 460 768mb.

I second this. It's also the direct competitor for GTX460 1GB performance-wise. If you want to purchase from OcUK though, you should go with GTX460 1GB IMO. It's still one of the best value cards.

But an overclocked 460 1GB can match a 6870 for only £152 :p Heat and noise not an issue with the Gigabyte or MSI cards according to reviews & personal testimony.

As shown in the anandtech review, You don't want heat or noise then stay away from a 470, go 460 1GB as you have stated you want to green, and overclock it for great bang for the buck performance.

Aggghhhhhh!! Decisions decisions!

The MSI 460 Cyclone @ £160 is a card that has always interested me TBH. Nice and quiet, as is my preference.

Problem is I like to change my card every 12-18 months, and get a nice priced mid-spec card. £160 is too close to GTX 470 territory again!

Maybe I should just wait another month or so

Ok, thanks Raven. Is the MSI Cyclone worth £10 more than the other brands in your opinion?

Yes but your relying on the cards being able to clock well past 800mhz, and by the time it does, power consumption is at GTX470 levels and the card is no longer silent, in which case he might as well get a 470.

But as the guy wants to go green it probably makes sense to get a 1gb 460 such as the Gigabyte though...

Pretty sure this is just your assumption, or you are thinking some cards with crap cooler. Gigabyte's cooler is quiet up to 70% fan speed, and only start to become 'noticable' beyond that according to people that have it, and I don't see the GTX460 will become as hot as you claim, considering the GTX460 can reach 800MHz on stock voltage.

I presume the Gigabyte 460 overclocked to 800Mhz+ will obtain similar results to the EVGA 460 (factory overclocked at GPU 850MHz, Shader 1700MHz, 4000MHz GDDR5) in this review: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3987/...enewing-competition-in-the-midrange-market/19

If you look at the graphs, they're no where near the levels of the 470 in either heat, noise or power.

^^ Well spotted, the EVGA 460 F.T.W runs cooler than the 6870 and is quieter. Considering the Gigabyte has a better cooler than the EVGA it's all good.

I dont understand this noise problem...I find the GTX470 much quieter then my HD4870. I have the case about 50-60cm from me with the side panel off right now and its completely fine. I have the ASUS GTX470 1280mb.
