Gentlemen,

I currently have a Radeon 4870 (512mb) in my setup, which resides in my living room.

The idle fan noise is starting to irritate me a little, under load its fine as I'm usually gaming with headphones on. I'm wondering on changing the card for something equally (or preferably more - I'm a gamer) powerful whilst being quieter. Any suggestion on the way to go?

I've looked at the Sapphire Vapor-X 5770, but I'm not sure if that'd actually be a backward step performance wise?

Any suggestions welcome!

The 5770 would just about equal the 4870 in performance, give or take 1-2 fps in games going either way.

As for more powerful I believe the 5850 and 5870 are very quiet whilst idle, with low power draws too. They would most definitely be a step up in terms of performance as well.

You can also get a vapor-x 5870 but I believe it's rather expensive!

If anyone who actually owns a 5800 card could clarify this that would be cool, don't want to be giving out wrong info!
