Radeon 6770 power question

I am doing an upgrade for a relative to play modern games and they have a 8400gs and cant play Bf3 so i think a 6770 would be enough as it does not need an extra power connection ?

Do all 6770's not need an extra psu connection ?

I've got 2 6770's and each one requires a 6pin power connector. I run them in crossfire obviously but a single one can handle battlefield fairly well (what I call fairly well anyway).

Phenom ii 550 unlocked to 3 cores @ 3.4hgz
8gb ddr3 1600

I would imagine more than double, or even triple.

if that is the case could i use an adapter for the 6770 ? as it would stop the need for a new psu due to the 14 year old it is for ?

What model is the PSU? It may not be able to run the 6770 safely if that's the case.

I am not sure what the psu is but if it runs the 8400gs it should run the 6770 ?
or is this flawed logic ?
