I am looking to upgrade my 6870 but have no idea where to start.
My budget is < £150.

The GTX 760 seems to be the #1 bestseller on a few sites and its priced at around £150.

I also have an i5 750 2.6GHz so I am not sure if I should upgrade my CPU and mobo first to something like a 4690k then get a new graphics card in a few months.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers

What motherboard do you have currently? I only ask as you can buy a xeon x5650 which you can then overclock with decent cooling and that would last you a a little while without having to spend a fair amount of money.

For 150 you can't go wrong with a gtx 760 or a r9 280 from overclockers, they also have a clearance 770 for an extra £20.

A few benchmarks from anandtech just to give you an idea:
gtx 760 vs HD 6870 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/780?vs=854

You could always look to buy second hand a gtx 680 could be had for around 150 off the popular auction site and I imagine a HD 7970 could be too.

Your CPU should overclock to between 3.6GHz and 4GHz pretty easily and that would give you a decent performance boost and save you having to fork out for a new setup. I'd be looking at a Radeon 280 in the £150 bracket.

The R9 280 is usually faster than the 760, but what will give it a longer shelf life and makes it a better option than the 760 is the 3GB of VRAM, especially for those memory hungry console ports.
