Radeon 6970

My brother in law has just given me a Radeon HD 6970 card ,,quick question,,,would there be a performance boast if I fitted that into my sons pc which is my old Q6600 system?. Currently this pc has a HD 4870 in it.

I went from a 4850 to a 6970 and it was quite a performance increase I must say however I have mine overclock from 880 to 950mhz on the core and 1350 on the vram.

nice,,,my old pc is just over 5 years old and was overclocked by OCUK when they built the system,,,never had a problem with it apart from the psu packing in last year. Will be interesting to see the boast even if it is slight with the 6970 ,,,heck,, I might even nick it back from my son !!! lol

phil just make sure you psu can handle it

Not many games wont give me 60 fps @ 1920x1080 on my 6970 even with max anti aliasing etc apart from the obvious ones like battlefield 4 (i5 750 @ 4ghz) it's still a decent mid range card.Might need to try bumping that Q6600 to 3.0 ghz or better though to get the best out of it, most Q6600 will do 3.6 ghz but does requite a great cooler if not then 3.2 ghz should still be achievable.
