As I will be the proud owner of an ATI 7970 later on today with my pre-built system, is there a modern walkthrough about the driver & utilities side?

I just ask, as this will be the first time I am the owner of an ATI card for the first time in history, as I always used to own Nvidia cards, and have noticed the ATI side of things are very much different!

they are easy enough to play about with, only thing i can think of is that if you overclocking the gpu then you will have to switch from basic to advanced mode, no big deal really

Install the driver, then play your game, no need to mess around with CCC, unless a game doesn't support AA and you decide to force it on.

ATI has the same functionality as Nvidia that it tells you what each function in the settings does, just instead of it being on the bottom as a box, it's a bubble on mouseover usually. :)

Just install the driver and you should be good to go (assuming AMD didn't screw something up). Usually the driver from the AMD website is good, but I think the 7970 currently has a specific driver as already mentioned.

CCC should be fairly intuitive to use and is much like the nvidia control panel, but set out differently. You normally don't have to change any settings in CCC (unless you want to), but I normally adjust the video settings because AMD for some reason enable loads of crappy video processing effects that totally screw up image quality in videos (I prefer everything turned off, apart from deinterlacing).

If the above driver is still valid, then I will definatly go for that, because of heavy pressures at work I have not had much time to play around with my system

Hopefully they will start to have more driver tweaks for the 7970 as time goes on, but almost sounds like there is separate drivers for this new card, are they going to start having a "2 tier" driver releases?
