Radeon GPU - TV detected when in standby?

The problem is, we know that Windows cannot output to two audio devices at the same time.. so...

My thinking was, set the TV as the default audio device and when the TV is in standby, Windows will use the PC speakers.

Fail on my behalf.

When the TV is in standby, the TV is still detected by the GPU meaning the speaker playback is still through the HDMI even though the TV is not "on".

Any workaround please?

Thank you.

I wonder if an hdmi splitter in line will disable the hdmi port the tv is on if it doesn't detect a signal. I think you can set an unused port as the default on some splitters. Could be wrong though.
