Radeon HD 2900XT issue!

Been playing a lot of COD2 today, and a problem keeps occuring where the screen will go completely covered in white and black mess, almost reminiscent of the checkerboard you used to get on a badly flashed 9500NP > 9700PRO.

I can't seem to pin it to anything specific though as I have changed a fair amount on the PC today (running ATITool to get higher FAN RPM, Running EVEREST to get CPU/PWM temps, and running a new LCD display software to output to a front panel LCD), I fear that they are hed herrings though and the problem is possibly video card hardware problem related (bad mem?).

Anyone else heard of or experienced this phenomenon on their 2900XT?

Running CAT 7.5's on vista x32, card and CPU are running at stock speed and volts.

any chance of a screenie of the problem, please? Does it only happen in COD2 or does it happen in any other games?

Only happened in COD2 so far, but then I've only played COD2 and a bit of HL2:EP1 today.

Happened about 5 times today (and only today), yet to get it to happen since posting.

One further thing, when it happened in COD2, if i brought down the console and did a /quit, when it got around to cutting video to re-enable aeroglass, the display came back 100% ok, and I could then go back to gaming.

Restart was never needed, although tried to see if it would aleviate the problem.

I think you need to test a real gpu memory intensive game, like Fear, or Quake 4 on max details and see if it happens then. If it doesn't I'd be tempted to say it was only a COD2 problem. I have played COD2 on my system, but I never had any problems with it.

This install of COD2 was fine for the last 6 months playing with both my 2x7800GT 512MB SLI setup and for the last month with my HD2900XT, I wouldn't say its a software thing tbh.

Can be playing for an hour or so, two hours, 20 mins, it seems completely random.

I'll suddenly move my FOV and the screen will go all black and white "not quite checkers, more like lines", but I can still sort of see outlines of objects in the game.

Its very strange.
