Both of those look shorter than my 6950 Frank, so I think they will fit, although you will only have about 5cm above the top of the Pci plate so have a look at that with regards to the heatpipe in the first card.

In any of the Sugo SG05 range it might be worthwhile getting a card with a side fan (intake basically) that exhausts through the vents on the Pci plate. That way it is venting the heat straight out of the back of the case, as opposed to simply moving the heat around the case, which would be the situation with your second choice.

Any passive card in the SG05 range is not going to get much airflow from the front fan, as the card itself blocks most of the airflow, so I would definitely get a cooled card.

This thread may help: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18308577.

Obviously in the actively cooled version, there is no heatpipe protruding above the card. This is generally the choke point in a SG06 (the area above the card). With that in mind I'd say the second card would definitely fit and the passive card probably would.

According to http://uk.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/AMD_Series/EAH6670_DC_SLDI1GD3/#specifications, the height of the passive 6670 is 4.6 inches, or 11.7 cm. In the thread I linked you to, people are saying they put cards in the SG05 / 6 that were 13.5 cm tall.

My view, in a small case like the SG06, is that the front case fan is so close to the important components that you will get away with passively cooling the major components, as long as you are not planning to do any serious overclocking.

I'm going to be testing that theory this week, as I am setting up an E2140 with a passive cooler and at some point will be buying the passive Sapphire 6670, my goal being to build a quiet HTPC that plays basic games at 720p.

Don't forget that an equal amount of overall heat is generated whether the card is passively or actively cooled (I think), it's just a case of the fans taking the warm air away from the heatsink. So it's not like your room will get much hotter, it's just that more heat will remain in the case. The SG06 does tend to get slightly hotter than the SG05 on account of the closed front panel, but it's only marginal.

passive or active cooled card

Thanks, i realised that the SG05 (instead of the SG06) would be a better choice but it wasn't available at OC :(
My thought is, although I have no proof or data, a fan might do "more harm" than a passive cooled card, because of the turbulences the fan can cause in a small case (I don't think is relevant in a large case). Whereas the heat from the heatsink in a passive cooled card get transported out more quickly with the linear flow from the intake fan.

I have to 'old' HD4560 cards, one passive and an card with a fan, so I will do some testing tonight.

Many thanks

The card would need to be short enough for the airflow from the front fan to have a shot at the cooling fins, which looks possible with that one. If the pcb is too long all the airflow will travel along the wrong side of the card. Also, keep in mind that the airflow in a standard SG05/06 is quite turbulent anyway. I have seen a mod where an SG05 had two tiny 40mm exhaust fans placed directly above the I/O plate, and I do get the impression that simply adding a grille to that area would improve the airflow.

I have not yet bought that card, I'm keeping an eye on faster second hand stuff instead. Can't quite bring myself to spend that when I could use my 8800GT, which is only worth £30 second hand yet faster than a 6670.

PS I have a SG06 too.

There was one thing that concerned me about that card Frank (and Robbie), and that was the alignment of the fins.

I put yesterday evening a old HD4650 in the SG06. I'm very lucky that I haven't ordered a passive cooled graphic card. Gepetto is right. The space above but also to the right (looking from the front) is very very tight. In particular there is no space between the PCIe slot and the PSU. I had to push the cables very hard to the side to get the card in. I also noticed that the metal edges of the PSU are extremely sharp and you have to be very careful not to cut the cables.
