Radeon HD6950 problem on three monitors

Hi

I've just installed a 6950 to get three monitors but I'm having problems getting the third monitor to work on the display port. The two on DVI work fine but the display port connected one stays off most of the time but then flickers into life to show the desktop occasionally, and only for a second or so at a time.

I've read that people get round the problem, a possible discrepancy between DVI and display port timings, by converting the graphic card display port to DVI and using the third monitor via this DVI connection.

When everything's connected up as three monitors (2x DVI and 1x display port) everything works fine as far as monitors being recognised, being able to arrange them within Catalyst Control Center, etc., but it will just not stay on.

To get things working as a three monitor setup am I looking at going down the display port to DVI adapter route or is there something else I can try?

If it means I need to get a DVI adapter then I'm fine with that if it works but I would like to get things working by having a 100% display port connection from graphic card to monitor if I can.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks

have you tried one monitor on DVI, one on HDMI and one on Displayport? Im not certain, but im pretty sure you can't use both DVI ports in a 3 monitor setup.

I had a similar issue, were none of my 3 displays supported Displayport, so I had to buy an Active Displayport to DVI adapter to fix the problem. Also, I couldn't use both my DVI ports, I had to use one of each. (DVI, HDMI, DP)

Does the Displayport monitor stay on when it's the only one connected?

Turns out it was a duff lead. Got a new one and it works perfectly by having two on DVI and one on display port.

Thanks for the help.

That was only the case with 1st gen Eyefinity products (most 5xxx era cards). With 6950s, you can use any combination of 4 ports. I had four monitors connected to my PC at one point to test this.
