If he has a legacy windows installation it wont boot if he changes it to uefi, as @Disco_P said you can convert the install i had to do it in the past.

Thats kind of my point ... I take from your situation, you had to update your windows / hdd install to be UEFI, and likely the OP will in some way have to do the same. Once done, then you can flip the setting on the BIOS.
I was querying why there appeared to be the need for a bios firmware install / upload where people were discussing using USB sticks to update the bios itself.
