Radeon X1950 AGP problem

I recently got a new graphics card (from ocuk) and it's causing me some problems - wondered if you can help out a newbie on here. I also stuck in an extra gig of RAM and a Soundblaster X-Fi at the same time, so have spent a while checking that everything is stable again with my old 9800 SE card back in.

Basically, when I install the new card, first off the graphic that gets displayed at boot up before Windows loads is reduced to like 8 bit colour.

Then, sometimes Windows will boot, sometimes the machine shuts down.

When Windows boots, my secondary monitor doesn't work and the primary has lots of corruption.

I've installed the latest drivers before I put the card in and makes no difference.

I did have it working for a day or so before the X-Fi card went in, but then it went berserk (black and yellow) during a game of FEAR.

I'm running Win XP with 2Gb RAM, 3Gz P4 on an Asus P4P800 motherboard.

A mate of mine reckons it's my wimpy PSU (only 350W) but obviously I don't want to shell out on a new one if that's not the problem.

Only other things I have connected on the PSU are a USB hub, 2 hard disks, a DVD writer and a floppy (it's an old machine, OK?).

Any help/advice very gratefully received.

Cheers.

What brand of PSU and can you find the model code\number?

May also be a faulty X1950, or it conflicting with the X-Fi (try moving the soundcard away from the graphics card to the 3rd or 4th PCI slot).

PSU was my initial thought too. I assumed you've plugged in any extra power cables to the graphics card as appropriate?

As a trouble-shooting measure, maybe try removing the soundcard, and unplug the floppy, unnecessary USB devices and optical drive. Do some testing and see if that fixes it, if so then highly likely to be PSU.

Can't remember the PSU brand. I got it from QuietPC.

I had a couple of problems with it before I put the X-Fi card in - these seemed to be fixed by changing the power cables round. I'll give it another go tomorrow with as much stuff unplugged as I can (too tired tonight).
