Lo, i've just been browsing through the forum looking for any info/reveiws/tips on either HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ3 Turbo 512MB GDDR3 or Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800 GS 512MB GDDR3 I found this thread which was quite useful:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17681917&page=1&pp=30

And this article of Toms Hardware:

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html?modelx=33&model1=607&model2=543&chart=196

My current system is (not overclocked):

AMD 64 3500+
2 x 512MB Corsair DDR PC3200
Asus A8V Deluxe
Qtec 500watt power supply, my Antec truepower died :'(
Creative Audigy 2
Nvidia 6800 Ultra 256MB (AGP)

I want to try and improve my current system but haven't got too much spare cash atm, it seems a new GPU would give the best boost? So its a toss up between the top 2, the ATi seems the better option being faster and cheaper?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thx :)

x1950 is the quicker card. Can do HDR and AA at the same time too.

First upgrade should be the Power Supply though! I'm surprised the QTec can run that TBH. Corsair/Enermax/Seasonic I recommend. :)

The card on the toms review is only the 20pipe G70 core, the gainward 7800GS+ 512 is the full 24pipe G71 core (7900GT PCI-E) and will be faster than the one shown especially @ 500core 1400memory clocks

Hmm well ive have the 24pipe GS+ and my bro opted for the x1950pro 512 version, both running same mobo, ram and psu's. Only diff been the amd 4000+ in mine and 3700+ in his (however they were both clocked at 2.7Ghz for our 3dmark05 bench tests). That Toms hardware guide is pretty much fairly close on what we saw with HL2. However when we ramped up the core and ram speeds on both strangely the gap did comedown somewhat, value for money cant beat the X1950pro though, great card. :)

Yep and if your lucky some will even clock to 565core 1500memory stable like mine will :)

Seems like an easy choice - X1950Pro as its quicker & cheaper.
