Hi all

Got a pc to fix for a friend and it looks like the graphics card has died. The owner smelt burning and when I have had a look, the gpu fan is halfway out of it's socket, so I am guessing it's overheated good style

I want to check, just to make sure - the radeon x700se is a pci-e card and looking at the motherboard specs (Asus p5gd1-fm/s in a fujitsu), it says it's a pci-e 16x slot, so presumably something like the 4350 would be compatible?

Cheers.

Yeah anything pci-e will be compatible, just bear in mind bigger cards would require a powerful psu, i see your only going for a smaller replacement model though.

Sometimes you can just push the fan back in and it'll work until it's replaced as they shut down when they reach a certain temp. Though in this case, for the sake of £25 you may as well replace it.

I think the fan must have come out a while ago as it's hard to explain, but it's actually melted the plastic that holds it in and then solidified half way out the socket. Presumably it must have heated up, gone malleable, fell out then cooled down. Never seen it before, to be honest, it's quite odd

I think the card is fried now as can't get any display out of it at all. As you say, for the sake of £25, I'm not worrying too much. My friend thought she would have to replace the whole tower so she's happy! :)

Cheers for the responses.
