Radiator fans: push or pull?

I've just installed my first water cooling system, and I have a question about the airflow direction from the fans on the radiator. From what I have read, I thought that radiators worked better if fans pulled air rather than pushed air through the radiator. The way I understood it, the ideal situation would be figure B in my hastily scribbled diagram. However the fans on my radiator are pushing rather than pulling (that would be figure A).

Question 1
Have I misunderstood something or did my radiator come with the fans mounted the wrong way round?

Question 2
Another strange thing is that although the radiator fans have three wires (they are the stock fans, Deltas I think, on a Swiftech MCR220 rad) I can't get a readout of the RPMs when I plug them into my Lian Li TR3 front panel display. I know the display is working properly because plugging my case fans into it shows their RPM. Would this happen because the wires are connected the wrong way around? Forgive me if that's a stupid question. I have no idea whether the fans would work backwards or not at all if the wires were round the wrong way lol. I know the actual plug/socket is the right way around as there is only one way to connect it.

Any help/advice happily received :)

Fans not reporting their RPMs

That's what I thought. Thanks for confirming.

Can anyone help with the fan controller question?
