So, heat deflectors is probably totally the wrong choice of phrase, but I've read about this somewhere (I thought here, but can't find anything) which you put on top of your radiator and it directs the heat out into the room.

We have two radiators that have in spectacular skill, been put right underneath the window and fire all their heat up the outside of the curtains into the window frame. Not ideal.

Any links or correct product descriptions gladly recieved. I'm not after one of these plug into the mains and circulate around the room fan efforts, just the deflectors...

close, but no cigar ! Not the foil that you put down the back (does this work?!) but almost like a 'flap' that goes over the top of the radiator that makes the hot air flow out into the room

I've seen fans that go on top of the radiator, which pushes the hot air round the room.

Aren't those relectors? Radiators, despite the name do not actually radiate heat but rather convect it. As such a reflective panel won't really do much.

Nothing clever, it's just a narrow shelf.

To smooth out the convected air from the rear of the radiator, curve the foil backing up and under the shelf.

It actually makes very little difference, the vast majority of the output being radiated forwards anyway and convection will force the rest up the wall. Makes about as much improvement as a racing spoiler on a Corsa. It's just handy to put stuff on and avoids you seeing the years accumulation of fluff down the back of it...

It does work, quite well infact. If you are getting some don't buy the special sheets like the ones linked to, B&Q do a large roll of foil faced insutation for around £12 which you could do all the radiators in your home with.

Yup, the bubble-foil one seems ideal

the actual plain foil one appears less effective to me

(@BM I was referring to the supposed effectiveness of a deflector, not the foil - the foil is a good idea... :))
