Monitor Audio Radius R90HT1 + AVR compatability

Hi I recently purchased the Yamaha 673 avr on discount and am currently looking at a new 5.1 speaker set, was looking at the Monitor Audio radius r90hd but have been offered the newer r90ht1 for a decent price, I was advised (by the salesman) that I would need a more powerful avr to get the most from them, recommending Yamaha A830 which looking at the specs seems only to be 10 watts more per channel at 8 ohms. Being a non audiophile I'm kinda lost with the technical jargon, but would the 673 be good enough to power the r90ht1 or should I keep looking for something more compatable speakerwise  any advice appreciated

The new Radius speakers are less efficient. They're 83dB (90's) compared to 87dB for the R90HD's. That's quite a drop. 3dB means that amp has to work twice as hard to get the same volume. So 4dB means an even tougher task.

The Yamaha amps are great. I do like them. But if they have one weakness it's the power delivery. I think it's more to do with the current rather than the wattage.

You'd be better off with the R90HD system. They're still stonkingly good speakers and will see you through to £1500+ AV Receivers if you decide to upgrade in the future.
